Washington County plans to add sidewalks with ADA-compliant curb ramps, a new bike and pedestrian crossing signal and stormwater upgrades along Alexander Street in unincorporated Aloha.

Residents can learn about the $25 million project and ask questions at a drop-in open house Tuesday, Nov. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Living Hope Fellowship, 3350 SW 182nd Ave. No formal presentation is planned, according to a county announcement. The project team will be available to discuss proposed improvements and property impacts.

The corridor runs along Alexander Street between SW 178th and 202nd avenues. The county describes it as a route pedestrians and cyclists use as an alternative to Tualatin Valley Highway.

Planned improvements include:

  • Sidewalks with ADA-compliant curb ramps on both sides of the street
  • Street markings for shared pedestrian and vehicle lanes
  • Alternating parallel parking and landscaping on both sides
  • Upgraded stormwater drainage and surface water treatment
  • A bike and pedestrian crossing signal at 185th Avenue and Alexander Street

The county also plans to fill sidewalk gaps between 192nd and 202nd avenues, creating a complete sidewalk connection west to 209th Avenue. The County Engineer directed staff to add that segment in summer 2025, and information was mailed to affected property owners that October, according to the county's project page.

Design work began in summer 2022. The county says design will continue through summer 2027, with construction running from spring 2028 through summer 2029. The project page lists slightly different dates: design finishing in fall 2027 and construction wrapping up in spring 2029. Right-of-way acquisition is expected from August 2026 through fall 2027.

The project is funded by Washington County's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP). The total cost estimate is $25 million.

The county held a previous open house on April 28, 2025 and an online design update in December 2023. Construction is not expected to begin until spring 2028.
