Bethany residents can sit down with Washington County Sheriff's Office deputies at two free Coffee with a Cop events next month.

The first gathering is Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Laurel Parc Senior Center, 15850 NW Central Dr. The second is Thursday, Oct. 15, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Starbucks, 1882 E. Baseline St.

The sheriff's office announced the events Sept. 12, describing them as informal meetups with no speeches and no set agenda. Deputies will be on hand to answer questions and hear what's on residents' minds.

The annual program started in Hawthorne, California, in 2011 and now operates in all 50 states. It aims to give officers and community members a chance to connect outside of emergency calls.

A third October event is on the calendar in Beaverton: Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Tall Fir Coffee, 14647 SW Millikan Way.
