The Beaverton School District named Julie Eggers, a first-grade teacher at Jacob Wismer Elementary School on NW Skycrest Parkway in Bethany, its September Achiever after four decades in the classroom.

Eggers is the first honoree of the 2026–2027 school year under the BSD Achievers program, which recognizes staff members each month based on nominations from students, parents, colleagues and community members. A committee made up of the district's Chief Human Resources Officer and HR executive administrators selects winners who best represent what the district calls its "BSD Promise: Belong. Believe. Achieve."

Eggers has taught hundreds of children and mentored dozens of student teachers over 40 years in the district, many of whom went on to build careers in Beaverton-area schools, according to the district's announcement posted Tuesday, Sept. 15.

One nominator described a path that began in Eggers' first-grade class as a child, continued when the person returned years later as a student teacher under her guidance and now extends into a working relationship as a colleague.

"It's rare that you get to be taught by, mentored by, and eventually befriend someone as special as Julia," that nominator wrote in the nomination, adding that Eggers continues to put students first and celebrate everyone around her.

Other nominators described Eggers as welcoming, creative, patient and calm regardless of the day's challenges. One wrote that hearing and watching her teach "is nothing short of amazing."

Jacob Wismer Elementary is at 5477 NW Skycrest Pkwy. Students there go on to attend Stoller Middle School and then Westview or Sunset high schools, meaning Eggers' first-graders are among the earliest students in the Bethany-area feeder chain. The district overall serves about 36,267 students across 53 schools.

The BSD Achievers program is open to all district employees. Teachers, paraeducators, bus drivers, custodians, counselors, nurses and administrators are all eligible. Winners can be recognized once every two years. District leaders surprise each honoree on the job, and the district posts photos and videos of the presentations on its website and social media.
