Bulldozers, fire engines, cranes, and tow trucks will fill the Conestoga Recreation and Aquatic Center parking lot on August 1, when Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District hosts its annual Big Truck Day.

The free event gives kids and adults a chance to climb inside dozens of specialty vehicles, honk horns, and explore rigs they'd normally only see from the sidewalk.

Sensory-sensitive hour starts at 9 a.m.

Families with members who have sensory sensitivities can arrive an hour early. The Sensory Sensitive Hour runs from 9 to 10 a.m., with no music or horn sounds during that window, according to THPRD's event announcement. The Autism Society of Oregon shared the event on X on Thursday, July 17, specifically highlighting the quiet hour as a resource for the autism community.

What's on site

Beyond the trucks themselves, THPRD is offering free splash pad access, food trucks, a picnic area, and a giant sandbox. No admission fee, no registration required. All ages welcome.

Oregon State Credit Union, the event's presenting sponsor, will have a shaded Chill Zone with seating and complimentary refreshments where families can take a break.

A long-running tradition

Big Truck Day has been a summer fixture at Conestoga for decades. A 2015 OregonLive article referred to that year's edition as the "17th annual," putting the event's origins around 1998 or 1999. THPRD has not listed specific participating agencies or companies for the 2026 event. In past years, participants have included Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, Beaverton Police, PGE, and local businesses.
