Bethany, Cedar Mill and Oak Hills residents can bring their questions directly to U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici at a public town hall at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in Beaverton.

The event at Arts & Communication Magnet Academy, 11375 SW Center St., is the closest of three town halls Bonamici scheduled across Oregon's 1st Congressional District this month. All four unincorporated communities in the Bethany Beacon's coverage area fall within the district, which includes portions of Washington and Multnomah counties along with all of Clatsop, Tillamook and Columbia counties.

Bonamici announced the town hall series Monday, Sept. 28. She said she plans to answer audience questions and provide an update on her work in Congress.

Beyond the question-and-answer session, staff from Bonamici's congressional office will be available on site to help residents struggling with federal agencies. That includes casework involving the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the Social Security Administration (SSA), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and immigration services. Residents who have hit a wall trying to resolve a benefits claim, a tax issue or an immigration case can speak with staffers one on one.

Doors open at 6 p.m.

For security, large bags and backpacks are not allowed inside the venue. Only small purses no larger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches are permitted. Attendees who do not comply will not be admitted.

The Beaverton Valley Times reported the Beaverton meeting is one of three October stops across the district. The other two are set for Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. at St. Helens Senior Center, 375 S 15th St., in St. Helens, and Saturday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. in Astoria at a venue still to be announced.

Residents who cannot attend any of the town halls but need help with a federal agency can contact Bonamici's Beaverton district office at 12725 SW Millikan Way, Suite 220.
