A daylong Korean culture festival lands this Saturday at the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton, roughly 10 minutes from Bethany Village.

Bethany and Cedar Mill families won't have to go far for K-pop, traditional music, and a hanbok fashion show.

The Annyeong (Hello)! Korea Culture Festival runs noon to 5 p.m. at The Reser, 12625 S.W. Crescent St. Tickets cost $10 and are available at secure.thereser.org/1938/1939.

The festival is co-hosted by the Korean Society of Oregon, the Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles, and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Seattle, in cooperation with Seattle Bazart, a pop-up event and marketing agency, according to the Beaverton Valley Times.

What to expect

A community market featuring Korean beauty, fashion, and lifestyle vendors opens at noon and runs through the afternoon.

Hanbok fashion shows featuring internationally recognized designers are scheduled at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Hanbok is traditional Korean clothing.

Live performances begin at 2:30 p.m. with DOSI, a traditional Korean and rock fusion band currently on a USA-Canada tour. The Maria Kim Jazz Quartet follows, and a K-pop event starts at 3:40 p.m.

The Reser's event page describes the festival as part of nationwide programming marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.

A local connection

Beaverton has maintained a sister-city relationship with Cheonan, South Korea, since 1989. Cheonan, the largest of Beaverton's six sister cities with nearly 600,000 residents, sits about 50 miles south of Seoul, according to city records.

The Korean Society of Oregon, one of the festival's co-hosts, was founded in the late 1960s to represent Koreans living in Oregon and share their heritage. The organization operates a Korean-language school with a Beaverton campus at Young Nak Korean Church, 17415 N.W. Walker Road.
