Mountainside placed seven players on the 2026 OSAA 6A all-state softball teams, more than any other Bethany-area school, headlined by a freshman catcher who earned First Team honors in her debut varsity season.

The Oregon School Activities Association released the all-state selections on July 2, based on votes by coaches across the classification. Players were eligible only if their head coach submitted a ballot.

Tenley Jukkala, a freshman catcher at Mountainside, landed on the First Team alongside Glencoe's Amelia Bouska as the only two freshmen in 6A to earn that distinction.

Junior pitcher Jojo Appling joined Jukkala on the First Team after helping the Mavericks to a 30-5 record and a state semifinal appearance.

Sunset junior infielder Shelby Townsend rounded out the local First Team selections.

Mountainside senior infielder Natalie Kawaguchi earned Second Team recognition, while Sunset sophomore pitcher Sydney Arnold joined her on the Second Team.

The Third Team featured three more local names: Mountainside senior first baseman Olivia Patterson, Mountainside senior pitcher Skylar Hins, and Sunset sophomore utility player Claire Townsend.

Westview senior infielder Kylie Frantz picked up Honorable Mention honors, giving the Wildcats representation on the list. Mountainside sophomore infielder Libby Wilson and junior outfielder Kaila Reyes also earned Honorable Mention, as did Sunset sophomore outfielder Maddy Larson.

Mountainside finished 30-5 and ranked No. 3 in Oregon 6A by MaxPreps. The Mavericks' run ended with a 3-0 loss to eventual state champion West Linn in the semifinals at Jane Sanders Stadium in Eugene.

Sunset went 23-12 and finished No. 13 in the state rankings, according to MaxPreps.

West Linn dominated the individual awards: senior Kendall Atwood took Player of the Year, Avery Wolf earned Pitcher of the Year, and Gina Garvey was named Coach of the Year after the Lions captured the state title with a 6-2 win over Sherwood.

Mountainside will return Appling, Jukkala, Wilson, and Reyes next spring, while Sunset brings back both Townsends, Arnold, and Larson. The 2026-27 schedules have not yet been published by OSAA.
