The Washington County Sheriff's Office is urging parents to talk with their children after a Cornelius man was arrested on sex abuse and attempted murder charges.

Daniel Le Brun, 42, was booked into the Washington County Jail on Tuesday, Sept. 1, after being discharged from a hospital, according to a sheriff's office press release. He faces charges of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, first-degree sex abuse and unlawful use of a weapon.

Court records show Le Brun also faces charges of first-degree kidnapping and first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, the Hillsboro News Times reported.

All charges are allegations. No plea information was available as of Wednesday, Sept. 2.

The sheriff's office said its call to parents applies across Washington County, including the Bethany, Cedar Mill and Oak Hills communities. Investigators believe Le Brun had access to children through his memorabilia business and are concerned additional victims have not yet come forward.

What happened

On Thursday, Aug. 27, at about 8:30 p.m., a juvenile ran to the Cornelius Police Department and reported an assault near the 1600 block of North Adair Street in Cornelius, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies located Le Brun barricaded inside his business at the Plaza Grande business complex. He was armed with several less-lethal-style guns and knives.

Le Brun refused to surrender.

The sheriff's office called in its Tactical Negotiations Team (TNT) and Crisis Negotiations Unit (CNU). Deputies used a drone to monitor Le Brun's movements while negotiators tried to reach him.

At about 1 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, TNT members took Le Brun into custody. Deputies transported him to a hospital for a medical emergency, according to the sheriff's office. He remained hospitalized until his discharge and booking on Sept. 1.

Concealed room found

Detectives investigating the scene discovered a concealed room inside the business complex where the alleged crimes took place, the sheriff's office said.

The agency is encouraging parents to speak with their children about any contact they may have had with Le Brun, whether at the store or elsewhere.

How to report information

The sheriff's office released Le Brun's booking photo under Oregon House Bill 3273, which allows law enforcement to release booking photos to identify additional criminal activity.
