A Salem man will spend 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to four counts of attempted murder for a shooting spree at a Sherwood self-storage facility on July 6, 2025.

Travis Lee Blumhagen, 41, entered his plea Friday, Sept. 18, in Washington County Circuit Court, KGW reported, citing the Washington County District Attorney's Office. The sentence covers nine charges: four counts of first-degree attempted murder with a firearm, one count of second-degree assault, three counts of first-degree criminal mischief with a firearm and driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII).

Blumhagen is being transferred to the Oregon Department of Corrections to begin serving the sentence.

The July 6, 2025, shooting

The charges stem from an incident that began with multiple 911 calls reporting a pickup truck speeding through Tigard and Sherwood, running red lights and swerving into oncoming traffic. Witnesses, including an off-duty Beaverton Police Department detective, reported seeing the truck, according to YourOregonNews.

Blumhagen then rammed his truck through a steel security gate at Sentinel Self-Storage, 21900 S.W. Langer Farms Parkway, and fired multiple rounds at three people and into several vehicles, according to the district attorney's office. No one was struck by gunfire.

One person who had been detailing a pickup truck ran and hid inside a storage unit. Two others were inside an RV when at least eight bullets hit it; they dropped to the floor and stayed there until the shooting stopped, KGW reported at the time.

After leaving the facility, Blumhagen circled back and rammed a second security gate before driving away. He then spotted a Sherwood police vehicle and fired several rounds at it. One officer at the scene told police officials "he could hear a bullet buzz by his head," YourOregonNews reported. The officer inside the patrol car was not hit but began pursuing Blumhagen, who threw his truck into reverse and slammed into the patrol car, destroying it and injuring the officer. That officer was evaluated at a hospital and released.

As officers from Sherwood, Tualatin, Tigard and King City police departments and Washington County deputies arrived, Blumhagen fired on them. A Tualatin police officer returned fire. Blumhagen then climbed through the sunroof of his pickup and surrendered.

Methamphetamine and four handguns

Investigators recovered four handguns from Blumhagen's truck. He told investigators he had used methamphetamine earlier that day and believed the people he shot at were state investigators, the district attorney's office said.

Court records show Blumhagen had multiple prior driving violations in Multnomah, Marion and Yamhill counties between 2006 and 2022. He also had two pending criminal cases from 2024: one charging him with menacing and pointing a firearm at two people, and a second charging him with strangulation and multiple counts of fourth-degree assault constituting domestic violence. The disposition of those cases was not reported.

Blumhagen was initially charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder and one count of second-degree assault after his July 2025 arrest. The charge count grew before the Sept. 18 plea.
