Six students will lead Sunset High School's government when classes resume this fall, bringing priorities that range from expanding student voting on school events to building connections across social groups on the Cedar Mill campus.
The Sunset Scroll, the school's student newspaper, published profiles of the newly elected leaders on July 2. The six presidents span all three grade levels and the school-wide Associated Student Body:

- Ipek Ozturk, ASB Co-President
- Sawyer Easton, Senior Class President
- Jacqueline Lam, Junior Co-Class President
- Westin Mason, Junior Co-Class President
- Charlee Taylor, Sophomore Class President
Bhattarai and Ozturk will co-lead the broader leadership program that plans assemblies, Multicultural Week, dances, sports tailgaters, and the annual Winter Charity Drive, according to Sunset's official activities page.
Bhattarai said he wants to build a culture where students feel they belong beyond academics. "I am a huge believer in placing importance on things beyond grades, like our stories and who we are as people," he told the Scroll. He ran a bee-themed campaign despite a personal fear of bees. During a cross-country race last fall, Bhattarai was chased by bees throughout the course and finished with 25 stings.
Ozturk, who was born in Türkiye and moved to the U.S. in third grade, said she wants to create an environment where any student can approach her with opinions about events or concerns.
At the class level, Junior Co-President Jacqueline Lam wants to establish a consistent voting system for dance themes, songs, and decor. Prom theme voting is available to seniors, and Lam said she hopes to extend that democratic input to other grade levels.
Her co-president, Westin Mason, said his focus is cross-group unity. He plans events like movie nights and scavenger hunts to encourage interaction between different social circles.
Senior Class President Sawyer Easton said she wants to create fun memories for the graduating class and negotiate senior discounts at nearby businesses. Sophomore Class President Charlee Taylor, who speaks English and French and is learning Spanish, said her priority is inclusion and making sure students have input on school events.
Sunset High, located at 13840 NW Cornell Road, enrolled 1,764 students in 2025-26, according to Beaverton School District data published by the Oregon Department of Education on February 5, 2026. The smaller student body means these six leaders will serve fewer classmates than their predecessors did four years ago, when enrollment stood at 2,003.
The new leaders take office when the 2026-27 school year begins. Mason's scavenger hunts and movie nights are among the first new events students can expect on the calendar.
