The playground at Bonny Slope Park is getting torn out and rebuilt with nature-themed play structures, and families in the Bethany and Cedar Mill area will be able to provide input on the new design starting in August.

The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District announced the replacement project at 11100 NW Thompson Rd, funded by the 2019 Metro Parks and Nature bond measure. The new playground will swap out aging equipment for nature-themed structures, improve stormwater drainage, and upgrade paths leading to play areas. The district's project timeline lists a spring 2027 opening.

THPRD plans to gather community input from August through October 2026. Design and construction planning begins in November, with construction scheduled to start in winter 2026-27. The park had already received smaller upgrades earlier in spring 2026, including a resurfaced looped pathway and a new asphalt pad for a portable restroom, according to the district's May parks update.

Separately, THPRD is launching a joint e-bike safety education and enforcement campaign on four regional trails this summer: the Westside, Waterhouse, Rock Creek, and Fanno Creek trails.

Only Class I e-bikes — pedal-assist models with no throttle — are allowed on those regional trails. They are banned from all other THPRD properties. Electric motorcycles and mopeds are prohibited everywhere in the district, according to THPRD's published announcement.

The education phase, run jointly with law enforcement and the Beaverton School District, continues through summer 2026. THPRD has not specified what enforcement will look like after the education period ends.

A separate project at Bethany Lake will also affect trail users. THPRD and Clean Water Services are stabilizing the berm and bank to protect a sewer line and trail, with construction scheduled to begin in July 2026. Residents using Rock Creek Trail west of the lake should expect intermittent closures of five to 10 minutes, and the connector trail to NW Columbia Avenue will close for up to one week.
