Mountainside's girls soccer team opens the 2026 season ranked among the state's best, tying for 8th in the Oregon 6A preseason coaches poll with 22 points.

They open Thursday at home.

The Mavericks share that spot with Metro League rival Beaverton in the poll published Tuesday by OSAAtoday and reported by the Beaverton Valley Times. Jesuit, the defending state champion, leads the poll with 100 points and all 10 first-place votes, followed by Grant (70), Lincoln (64), West Linn (56) and Lake Oswego (44).

The ranking follows a strong 2025 campaign for head coach Travis Schoonover's program. Mountainside went 12-2-2 overall and 4-1-1 in Metro League play last season before falling in the second round of the state playoffs. The Mavericks have qualified for the postseason every year since beginning varsity play in 2018, and last season marked their fourth with double-digit wins.

Schoonover told OregonLive in September 2025 ahead of last season that the program's annual challenge is blending new faces with returning starters. "We return five varsity starters and will have a new goalkeeper and five field players to quickly integrate into the starting 11," he said at the time.

The early schedule will test where Mountainside stands. The Mavericks host No. 10 Tualatin on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. in their season opener, then travel to No. 3 Lincoln on Tuesday, Sept. 1. They return home to face Crescent Valley on Thursday, Sept. 3, before a road trip to No. 5 Lake Oswego on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The preseason poll is for generating interest and discussion only and does not affect the OSAA's RPI and Colley ratings used for playoff seeding.
