Mountainside posted the lone win for Bethany-area football on Friday, Sept. 11, beating West Salem 39-27.
Sunset and Westview were not as fortunate. Tigard shut out Sunset 42-0 at Tigard High School, and West Linn routed Westview 48-16. The three 6A programs went a combined 1-2 on the night.
Mountainside 39, West Salem 27
The Mavericks lost 52-13 to Tualatin on Aug. 28 and then beat Glencoe 28-17 on Sept. 4. The win over West Salem gave Mountainside its second victory of the young season.
Mountainside entered the week ranked No. 7 in the 6A coaches poll with 43 points.
Individual stats from the West Salem game were not available at publication time.
In the loss to Tualatin, senior running back Reece Ballew carried 15 times for 104 yards and caught three passes for 94 yards, while quarterback Mason Severson finished 21 of 41 for 242 yards, according to the Hillsboro News-Times. Receiver Kai Paler added seven catches for 77 yards in that game.
Tigard 42, Sunset 0
Sunset's rough start continued with a shutout loss at Tigard High School. The Apollos fell to 0-2 after also losing 22-21 to Roosevelt in Week 1.
Tigard quarterback Aris Dimick completed 14 of 18 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns and added seven carries for 67 yards, according to the Beaverton Valley Times. Tigard led 21-0 at halftime and scored three more touchdowns in the second half.
"Last year we were up 20-0 on Sunset and they came back and we lost the game, so our message to the guys at halftime was simply finish, and I'm proud of the team for finishing," Tigard head coach Will Whitley said after the game.
Sunset travels to Liberty at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
West Linn 48, Westview 16
The Wildcats dropped to 0-2 after West Linn piled up 48 points. Westview also lost its opener 28-7 to Grants Pass on Sept. 4, when senior running back Sean Yueh scored the team's only touchdown on 10 carries for 49 yards, according to the Beaverton Valley Times.
Individual stats from the West Linn game were not available at publication time.
Through two games, Westview has been outscored 76-23.
Week 3 outlook
Sunset's Sept. 18 trip to Liberty is the only confirmed Week 3 matchup among the three schools. Mountainside's and Westview's opponents for Sept. 18 had not been confirmed as of Saturday, Sept. 12.
