Beaverton police are asking anyone who was near the Beaverton Transit Center in the early morning hours of Aug. 4 to come forward after a man was found badly beaten on a nearby sidewalk. The transit center at Canyon Road and Lombard Avenue is a major TriMet hub used regularly by commuters from Bethany, Cedar Mill, Oak Hills and West Haven-Sylvan.
Officers discovered the victim lying on the sidewalk near Southwest Lombard Avenue and Southwest Canyon Road at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, according to the Beaverton Police Department. He had sustained significant injuries to his head and was transported to a local hospital.
Based on video evidence collected during the investigation, detectives believe the assault occurred between approximately 1:50 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Aug. 4. That means the victim may have been on the sidewalk for more than an hour before officers found him.
No arrests have been made.
As of Aug. 13, nine days after the attack, police are still working to identify the person or people responsible.
Second violent crime that morning
The assault was the second violent incident Beaverton police responded to on Aug. 4. At approximately 5:15 a.m., officers were called to a stabbing near Southwest 107th Avenue and Southwest Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, where a 30-year-old man was found with life-threatening injuries. We reported on that case Aug. 12; police are still searching for a suspect and a silver van connected to that attack.
The two incidents are separate investigations, according to Beaverton Valley Times reporting.
Detective Madalyn Brown is leading the transit center assault investigation. Police are specifically seeking anyone who was in or around the Beaverton Transit Center or the nearby shopping center near Big 5 Sporting Goods between 1:50 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Aug. 4.
The victim gave investigators permission to release his photo in hopes of identifying his attacker.
Anyone with information can contact Detective Brown at 503-526-2280 or by email at [email protected].
