Westview volleyball opens the 2026 season 5-2 and hungry to reclaim a spot in the Oregon 6A state tournament after missing it for the first time in four years.

Head coach Janelle Brandt told the Beaverton Valley Times the Wildcats are using last season's absence as fuel. The squad dropped early matches to Central Catholic and Sheldon, then won five straight over La Salle Prep, Nelson, South Salem, Ida B. Wells and McDaniel.

"… Our overall goal is to make it back to state, and we're using last year's loss as motivation to get there," Brandt said.

Six seniors anchor the 13-player roster, led by captains Mady Lebeck, Ashlyn Pedersen and Abbey Meier. All three are four-year varsity players. Lebeck, a libero, and Pedersen, a hitter, earned first-team all-Metro League honors in 2025. Meier, an outside hitter, earned second-team all-league recognition despite missing much of last season with an injury. Brandt said Meier has returned stronger and called her health a significant benefit for the team.

Junior setter Logan Kekaualua, a third-team all-league pick in 2025, is running a new five-one offense after co-setter Catherine Chang graduated. The system puts Kekaualua alone at the controls, a shift from the two-setter look the Wildcats used last year.

Junior middle Liv Clement, a second-team all-league selection, rounds out the returning core. Brandt also pointed to sophomore Ellen Madsen and freshman Dylon Daley as rising contributors. Madsen plays return specialist and middle blocker. Daley handles outside hitter and middle blocker duties.

Brandt said the team also wants a Metro League championship, a title that has eluded the program in recent years. The Wildcats finished second in the Metro League in 2021, 2022 and 2024, according to the school's athletics page. Last season, Westview pushed three-time defending state champion Jesuit to five sets in a de facto league title match before falling.

Westview entered the season tied for No. 7 in the 6A preseason coaches poll with 32 points. Jesuit topped the poll at 105.

The Wildcats travel to Mountainside for a conference match Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 6:45 p.m.
