Beaverton police are asking the public to help identify a man who attacked a Latino worker on July 10, punching him repeatedly in the face while yelling racial slurs at an SW 3rd Street business.
The department released a photo and security footage of the suspect on Friday, Aug. 14, and said investigators have developed probable cause to arrest him for Assault in the Fourth Degree and Bias Crime in the First Degree, according to a Beaverton Police Department alert.
The victim was remodeling a business in the 12700 block of SW 3rd Street when the suspect approached him and said, "You don't belong here," before tackling him and punching him multiple times in the face, the department said. The business is near SW Angel Avenue, according to KPTV. Witnesses confirmed the suspect shouted racial slurs during the attack.
The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 30 to 40 years old, with a heavy build.
Under Oregon law, Bias Crime in the First Degree is a Class C felony carrying up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $125,000. The assault charge is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.
The incident is separate from two other recent Beaverton assaults the Beacon has covered: a man found beaten near the Beaverton Transit Center on Aug. 4 and a stabbing near Oak Hills the same day. The July 10 case involves a different victim, location and suspect, and adds a hate-crime charge not present in either prior case.
The suspect has not been arrested or identified. Police did not explain the five-week gap between the July 10 assault and the Aug. 14 public alert.
Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information should call the Beaverton Police Department at 503-526-2280 and reference case number 26-1911055.
